Register Analysis

Similar to the SCO / Register Analysis report, this is intended to show you how the registers in each store are being used by your customers & guests. Since you might use the same register numbers in multiple stores, you will want to select an individual store in the filters for the most effective use of this report.

On this report you will see the overall basic sales metrics & how those metrics apply to each register.  You will see trends by day & time, which you can use to assist in staffing as well as consideration of self checkout options.

There are graphics to show how various activity is allocated, or is trending - and you'll see pivot tables where you can add and remove fields to expand or narrow the summary of the metrics.

You will see a weekday filter and some of the graphics and pivot tables include weekdays - be sure that your date range includes an appropriate span that includes the same number of each weekday so your comparison between weekdays is relevant. For example, you might start your date range on a Sunday and end it on a Saturday.

It is important to note that the data considered begins with the date on the heading panel of the dashboard, under Earliest Transaction Date.  This means that your trends and filtered data will start with the transactions on this date.

You will see a link to this document in the top of the dashboard, under the heading Dashboard Help.

The first couple of charts show the percentage allocation that each of your registers is handling in terms of dollars & transactions. You can use this information to help with staffing allocations - further down in the dashboard you will see this activity by weekday and by hour - start here, though to understand how many checkouts are happening at each register.

What types of purchases your customers are bringing through the registers can be seen in the average value, items per and average unit value. Do you see consistently larger or smaller purchases going through specific registers? Are the registers situated differently? Is there a clear path for your customers to use a variety of registers? Should you consider adding self checkout registers?

The next set of graphics are trend lines that will show register usage by weekday and in time increments. Consider how many registers you have open at peak times, and also at slower times. Are you able to allocate some staffing to the sales floor instead of at the registers during the slower times? Do you have more registers than you need? Do you have enough?

Look to the pivot table for more granular detail. You can right click to add & remove fields - in this case to see your stores, weekdays & hours and how your registers are being used in those combinations. You can, for example, remove the register numbers, weekdays & hours to see each store's high level metrics, including transactions per register - from this you can look at individual registers to see how each is being used & compared with these metrics; you can look at weekdays and / or hours to see how the number of transactions per register compare. You might be able to adjust your staffing or the number of open registers with this information. As mentioned above, when looking at weekday metrics be sure that your date range on the dashboard includes an appropriate span to include the same number of each weekday - maybe start your date range on a Sunday and end it on a Saturday.

Any of the data tables can be exported to work with the data outside the dashboard. Do this by clicking on the 3 dots at the top right corner of the widget, choose Download and export an image or file.  The recommended file type for a spreadsheet is CSV.
