Items in FieldStack can have differing taxation based on State. This uses the Attribute management system.
At the point of sale, the attribute will trigger the system to check the taxability results on that item type based on the TaxJar taxation information. This is based on the address of the store location. The process that checks items during cash-wrap must also be turned on for each location by FieldStack.
The item list and taxability attributes should be handled at the client-level.
If the state changes the taxability of the items you have applied to that Attribute, the information received from TaxJar API will change and the items will ring up based on the new taxation rule.
How to set up items with Special Taxability
- Create an Attribute called SpecialTaxabilityCode.
- Find the TaxJar code for the item type that has special sales tax
- Go to: Sales Tax API Reference - TaxJar Developers
- In the search box on the middle of the page, look up the category requiring a taxability check.
- Copy the code for the Category you are adding
- Add the Attribute to your items
- Go to your attribute in the Attribute Values tab and add each code located from within TaxJar as the Text Value along with your Internal Description for that tax rule.
- Using Item Search or Find item Advanced, locate the items that need to be checked by the system at the point of sale.
- Multi-select the items to be affected, Right-Click and select Add Attribute Value.
- Choose the Attribute Type SpecialTaxabilityCode and the Attribute Value associated with the TaxJar code you entered.
- Go to your attribute in the Attribute Values tab and add each code located from within TaxJar as the Text Value along with your Internal Description for that tax rule.
- Let FieldStack know which locations need to have this functionality turned on. When stores are activated, items with the attributes assigned with the corresponding TaxJar numbers will do a check at the point of sale and alter their taxability based on the tax rules for that code, in that state.
