Overview
Attributes are a way to tag items with multiple or unique characteristics. While items have distinct properties like UPC, Manufacturer, or Price, attributes are infinite and can be nearly anything.
- Attributes can become customer-facing filters for online searches.
- They can distinguish between variants of a similar item by defining things like Color, Size, Weight, Dimensions, Flavor, or Ingredient.
- They can be used to build out category pages be utilizing the Category, Extended Category, or Type attributes as well as by utilizing tags for Season, Theme, New Arrivals, Products We Love, Retiring Soon, etc.
- Attributes can control the inclusion of online tiles and additional information.
- Depending on set up , attributes might define what a customer sees online or might be used for internal purposes for employees using the application.
Editing Product Attribute Types and Values
In the grid that comes up you will see a list of Attribute Types. Each Attribute Type refers to a different detail that can be assigned to an item or group of items and can be a descriptor, a system-defined category, online filterable or pivotable product information, a trigger for online visibility, a trigger to show extra info about the item, special pricing functions, or html code.
There are three variations of attributes types:
- Unique: Specifies whether or not to enforce one value per item (if checked, only one value can be used per item - e.g. you may have color defined as 'unique' which would mean you could add an attribute value of Green or Red, but not both.)
- Filter: If checked, attribute values of this type will show up as search filter on webstore. Filters allow customers to reduce the results shown by selecting attributes that are customer-facing.
- Pivot: If checked, attribute values of this type will be eligible for pivoting within a product variant page (sizes, weights, etc.)
To edit attribute values, select the Attribute Values tab, then select an Attribute Type in the drop down menu to view the full list of available values.
- To add a value click Add Value.
- To edit an existing value click Edit Value.
- The Internal Description is what you will see when assigning the attribute value. Multiline Text Value is what the customer will see if the attribute appears online.
- To assign the order in which an online filter would show to a customer, assign a Decimal Value. This will determine the order in which the Attributes are displayed. This is not required.
Editing Product Attribute Values on Items
- Search for an item or group of items using Find Item (Advanced), searching by keyword, manufacturer name, vendor, or product source group.
- Right-click on the item and select Add Item Attribute
- Multi-select items (using Shift + Click or CTRL + Click) and right-click to assign an attribute to multipe items at once
- Select desired Type and Attribute Value ('add new value' if necessary)
- Save changes

Searching Items by Attribute
1. Select Find Items by Attribute Values
2. Select Add Attribute to define each attribute for your search. This could be one attribute or many. Selecting multiple attributes will limit your search results. Category Dog Food might show 2,000 results, Seasonal Might show 1,000 results, but using the two combined might show only a handful. This is useful when trying to zero in on a select group of items.
3. Once your Attributes are selected, tap Search. The resulting item list will show only items that pertain to your selected attributes. This is also useful when removing attributes.
