Assembling the POS Station

  1. Begin with the cash drawer
    1. Typically, the cash drawer will act as a “base” beneath the Touch Dynamic Razor POS unit.
    2. Ensure that one end of the data cable is connected to the data port in the Cash Drawer (the other end will go to the receipt printer.)
    3. If locked, unlock the cash drawer
  2. Attach DC cord to the Touch Dynamic Razor POS unit.
  3. Attach ethernet cable to POS unit and network jack
  4. Power on POS unit using button on lower right of base
  5. Keyboard and Mouse combo
    1. Install Keyboard/Mouse USB dongle to user-facing USB on the Razor computer
    2. Pull the battery tab and turn on both the mouse and keyboard
  6. Epson Receipt Printer
    1. Attach the USB-B cable to the back of the Epson receipt printer and attach the other end to an available USB-A port.
    2. Attach the power adaptor to the AC power and the printer
    3. Attach the free end of the Cash Drawer data cable to the data port on the Epson printer
    4. Load the printer with a roll of paper
    5. Power on the Receipt Printer
  7. Attach the Datalogic QD4230 handheld scanner to an available USB-A port.
  8. Attach the  Credit Card Reader
    1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the square (generally red) RJ-45 connector and to an internal networking jack. The device does not physically connect to the Razor POS terminal.
    2. USB connection is not needed
    3. Serial connection is not needed
    4. Connect the AC power cord
    5. The device will automatically power on
    6. On initial setup, the CC reader will initiate a firmware/software update when powered on. This will require the CC reader to have the ability to acquire an IP via DHCP over ethernet cable. Upon completion of the update, the CC reader will have a designated Static IP address configured and further testing will require the use of that Static IP address for connectivity.

Configuring Peripherals and Software

Testing Peripherals and Software

  1. Test the biometric fingerprint reader
    1. Log in using FieldStack login and password
    2. Use [ALT + END] to logout (the user logging out at this step is the user who’s fingerprint will be recorded in the next steps.)
    3. Place your thumb on the fingerprint scanner on the side of the device
    4. It will tell you that it is committing your fingerprint and ask you to press it again 3 or 4 times
Note: This is interpreting your fingerprint and is not actually recording your fingerprint.
    5. When committed, the fingerprint will be filled in red and it will ask you to log in to save your information
    6. Enter your login and password to save your fingerprint information
    7. If successful, the fingerprint reader is working and you can side-step the keyboard for logins on this device (follow the same steps at each work station to enable it on all POS units)
  2. Test the drawer open function
    1. Make sure the cash drawer is unlocked but closed
    2. In the lower right corner of the POS screen tap on Open Drawer or press the [+] key on the keyboard to open the drawer.
    3. Note: the cash drawer open function requires the receipt printer to be connected, powered-on, and loaded with paper. The drawer will not open if the receipt printer is in an error status.
  3. Search for an item
    1. In the white search box in the upper right - above the $0.00 sale amount - enter the name of a common item
      Graphical user interface, text, application

Description automatically generated
    2. A search result screen will come up showing various items with pricing, item type, and manufacturer.   This confirms that the database is connected.
  4. Test the barcode scanner
    1. Scan a barcode of a common, in stock item. If that item comes up on screen, the scanner is working properly.
    2. If the item does not come up, try a second item in case the first item happens to be a very new item or something that was not in the database when the item list was imported.
  5. Test the label printer
    1. On the POS Screen, tap on Enter Relabel Mode

      Graphical user interface, text, application

Description automatically generated
    2. Make sure the radio button for New is selected (if your system deals with new/used items)

      Graphical user interface, text, application

Description automatically generated
    3. Scan the barcode of a new, in stock item
    4. In the center, right-hand of the screen, tap on Relabel 1 Item or [+] on the keyboard
      Graphical user interface, application

Description automatically generated
    5. A label should print out on the Zebra label printer that shows the item information, item price, item type, date of relabel, and a barcode for scanning that item at the POS
    6. If a label printed, the Zebra label printer is working properly
  6. Do a test sale using Credit Card as a payment (recommended)
Note: TSYS may have included a test Credit Card number with each machine.  If so, manually enter that number in the screen that appears after the charge amount.
    1. Look up “CREDIT TEST” in the search bar in the upper right. You should find a $0.01 item called “Credit test”
    2. Tap Select or Sell New (depending on your set-up) to add this item to the sale.
    3. In the lower right corner, tap on Credit Card or [F4] on the keyboard
      Text

Description automatically generated with medium confidence
    4. The Credit Card Amount box will pop up showing the 0.01 sale
    5. Press OK [Enter] to send the charge information to the CC reader
    6. Insert or tap a credit card using the CC terminal
    7. The sale should process, and a receipt should print from the Epson receipt printer
NOTE: It is not necessary to complete this sale if using a personal credit card is not preferred. As long as the terminal shows the amount of sale and is ready for a credit card payment, then the POS and credit card machine are communicating appropriately.
  7. If the sale was completed, did a receipt print out? If so, the Epson Printer is working.
    1. If not, do a test print from within FS by going to the gear icon in the upper right > Settings > basic

      Graphical user interface, text, application

Description automatically generated
  8. Close the Drawer by clicking on Drawer-Close and counting the cash in the drawer (if any). Follow the on-screen steps to close the drawer. Closing the drawer will batch the credit card charge and ensure that things are working A-to-Z. The primary reason for doing this is so that the penny charge does not show up as an unbatched credit card payment in a report the next day. If a card was not run, this step can be skipped.

  9. Log out of FieldStack by tapping the Logout area at the lower part of the screen or [ALT + END] on the keyboard.
