This article reviews the process of initial setup of product variants and attribute types/values in FieldStack.

Overview:

The concept of Product Variants and Attribute Types/Attribute Values is being introduced into FieldStack as part of the 2017 Marketplace Refresh.  The end result is a self-service method for controlling:

  • If and how individual Item Codes (UPC/Multiple Mapped UPCs) and their variants are grouped together on automatically consolidated webstore product pages
  • Filtering and selection options displayed to the end user on webstore product pages

Step 1:  Edit the Product Attribute Types and Values at a global level

Before assigning attribute types at the item level, launch the 'Attribute Management' panel to set up attributes globally.  Any changes made in this panel will be applied globally.

  • Unique: Specifies whether or not to enforce one value per item (if checked, only one value can be used per item - i.e. single values, no overlap)
  • Filter: If checked, attribute values of this type will show up as search filter on webstore
  • Pivot: If checked, attribute values of this type will be eligible for pivoting within a product variant page (sizes, weights, etc)

To edit attribute values, select the 'Attribute Values' tab, and an "Attribute Type" in the drop down menu.

  • Text values will most often be used
  • Decimal values should be assigned based on the unit for which the product is stored in FieldStack in your product catalog

Step 2:  Edit the Product Attribute Values at an item level

Single item assignment:

  1. Search for an item using 'Find Item (Advanced)' - (we recommend running down the drop down of 'Category Names')
  2. Right click on the item and select 'Item Attributes'
  3. Select desired 'Type' and 'Attribute Value', (adding a new value if necessary)
  4. Save changes

Multi item assignment:

  1. Search for a group of items using 'Find Item (Advanced)' - (we recommend running down the drop down of 'Category Names')
  2. Multi select items to assign a shared attribute value (hold shift)
  3. Right click on one of the selected items and select 'Item Attributes'
  4. Select desired 'Type' and 'Attribute Value', add a new value if necessary
  5. Save changes

Step 3:  Monitor progress using the FieldStack reports

Viewing mapping progress (BCR Reports):

  • Inventory tab → Webstore Attributes:  This report displays the number of items that have received mapping for every given combination of Attribute Type and Attribute Value.

Step 4:  Edit the internal 'Item Name' and 'Extended Name' for all items in the product catalog  (and external, if des)

The internal 'Item Name' and 'Extended Name' fields drive the product variants.  Whenever these fields across multiple items, the individual items may now show up on the same product variant page on the webstore (with pivots too, if assigned).

Single item editing (item listing):

  1. Search for an item using 'Find Item (Advanced)' - (we recommend running down the drop down of 'Category Names')
  2. In 'item listing', right click on the item and selects 'Edit Item'
  3. Edit the item's 'Item Name' and 'Description' removing undesired content and pasting it into the 'Description 3' field
  4. Save changes.

Multi item editing (item listing & bulk editor):

  1. Search for a group of items using 'Find Item (Advanced)'
  2. In 'item listing', multi select items (hold shift and click)
  3. Right click on one of the selected items and select 'Bulk Editor'
  4. Use the bulk editor to edit the items' 'Item Name' and 'Description' removing undesired content and pasting it into the 'Description 3' field
  5. Save changes by clicking "Add To Database" button in the bottom right corner.
